Once installed in users’ mobile phone, this makes the person a walking digital library.
‘Mobile Library’ — a microSD memory chip containing 1000 books — produced by MobileVeda, was launched by G. Viswanathan, Chancellor of VIT University at a function here on Tuesday. V. Ramasubbu, General Manager, District Industries Centre (DIC), Vellore received the first memory chip.
Giving details of the product, K.R. Ganesh Ram, Founder and CEO of MobileVeda said that the idea behind the ‘Mobile Library’ project was to enable people to read books in the mobile format in view of greater access to mobile phones than the computers, and in the light of the dwindling habit of reading books among the people. While about 30 to 40 million people in India have access to computers, about 50 crore people have access to mobile phones. The product known as ‘SEED’ comprises classic Tamil literary books including ‘Thirukkural,’ ‘Silapathigaram,’ etc., seven short stories written by late C.N. Annadurai, the Bible, Quran, and several English books including children’s books and novels. The introductory price of ‘SEED’ is Rs.490.
